Abstract

An electrochemical study has been carried out on electrolytic Cu and some Cu alloys (Cu-Fe-P; Cu-Ni-Fe; Cu-Ni-Cr) with the aim of evaluating their anodic behaviour in Cl − solutions. The results of the electrochemical investigation, in the light of X-ray and electron microprobe analyses of corrosion products, lead to conclude that no separate compound of the alloying elements is formed anodically on the alloy surface in such an amount to improve substantially the “coverage passivity” of Cu. Cr has proved to affect quite harmfully the corrosion behaviour of Cu.
