Abstract

In the present work electrochemical corrosion properties of Fe-Mn-Al-Ni in different electrolytic solutions have been investigated by determining the open circuit potential and by conducting potentiodynamic polarization measurements. The corrosion experiments reveal that the exposure to a solution with a high pH (=13.3) results in a passive behavior. However, after adding Cl- ions to the solution, the corrosion behavior changes from passivating to non-passivating. Optical microscopy images further reveal that, independent from the electrolytic solution, selective corrosion of the β-Mn-phase or the γ’-phase occurs.
