Abstract

The feasibility of electrochemical characterization and modification of the composition of a cadmium sulfide sample has been shown. The sample (thickness, 1 μm) was prepared by anodic oxidation of an electrolytic cadmium layer, plated on a platinum electrode, in an aqueous solution of sulfide ions. The sample composition was changed by coulometric oxidation, and the composition variation was observed by the means of the galvanic cell Cd:Cd2+ (aq.): . The electrode reaction is thermodynamically reversible in the considered composition range. Two potential‐composition diagrams are given, as well as an attempt to interpret some of their parts.
