Abstract

This research was carried out on the study of SOFCs working with hydrogen (H 2 ) and dry methane (CH 4 ) fuels with a cermet anode of nickel (Ni)/fluorite type material as Gadolinium doped ceria (GDC) and Samarium doped ceria (SDC) to compare with Ni/Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) anode at 900°C. We observed that the performances with Ni/GDC and Ni/SDC anodes obtained with H 2 and dry CH 4 were better than those obtained with Ni/YSZ anode. After degradation tests, the SOFC with Ni/GDC anode conserved high performances, while Ni/YSZ anode was degraded. The degradation of the SOFCs in dry CH 4 fuel was accelerated by the interruption of the current. Thus, Ni/ doped ceria anodes had similar behaviour and could be suitable candidates as anodes in SOFC with dry CH 4 fuel.
