Abstract

The feasibility of a Ni/YSZ anode with proton-conductor was investigated for direct hydrocarbon SOFCs. In the present paper, the infiltration method was selected to fabricate the Ni/YSZ anode with a proton-conductor of SrZr0.95Y0.05O3-α(SZY). The electrochemical characteristics of Ni/YSZ-SZY were examined in humidified hydrogen(1% H2O) fuel and in dry methane fuel at 900ºC respectively. The durability of Ni/YSZ and Ni/YSZ-SZY anodes were also studied using adapted degradation tests. Results indicate that the addition of the proton-conductor of SZY to the Ni/YSZ anode made the Ni/YSZ-SZY anode operated more stably than the Ni/YSZ anode in dry methane. Thus, Ni/YSZ anode infiltrated with SZY was more suitable to be used than Ni/YSZ anode in dry methane fuel.
