Abstract

The electrochemical behaviour of adsorbed propanol-2 in the absence of bulk reaction is studied. In the hydrogen potential region cathodic desorption requiring about 1 electron per site is assumed to be the predominant process is which the chemisorbed particles take part. For the oxidation of the chemisorbed propanol-2 about 3±1 electrons per site are needed. Application of the electrooxidative desorption model of Srinivasan and Gileadi for this process leads to a transfer coefficient of 0.37 and an activation energy of about 60 kJ/mol.
