Abstract
Multimolecular layers of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy(TEMPO) was immobilized on a glassy carbon electrode coated with polyacrylic acid. The coverage of TEMPO was about 2 x 10 -7 mol/cm 2 and E o surf was 0.36 V vs. a Ag/Ag + (0.10 M) reference electrode. Electrocatalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol with a TEMPO-modified electrode was observed by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetries. Electrocatalytic current measured by amperometry at an applied potential of 0.45 V was linearly increased as the concentration of benzyl alcohol was increased.
