Abstract

The electrochemical properties of high-valence silver oxide (Ag 3 O 4 ) in alkaline solution were investigated and the reduction mechanism was proposed. It was discovered that the reduction process of Ag 3 O 4 was complicated, and could be reduced through the series of Ag 3 O 4 →AgO→Ag 2 O→Ag at slow rate; conversely, it could be directly reduced to Ag 2 O at rapid rate. In addition, this material presents not only high capacity but also prominent electrochemical performance at very high discharge rate.
