Abstract

Zinc gluconate was investigated as corrosion inhibitor on mild steel in 3.5 % NaCl solution using weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. The surface morphology of the corroded samples was assessed with high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM). The results revealed that the corrosion rate of mild steel with zinc gluconate in sodium chloride solution decreased significantly. The experimental results fit the Langmuir adsorption isotherm with regression factor (R 2) >0.957 at all the concentrations of ZG studied. There was some level of correlation in the inhibitor efficiency between the methods used for the corrosion evaluation of mild steel with zinc gluconate in 3.5 % NaCl solution.
