Abstract

Wearable devices are being utilized nowadays especially when it comes to medical field. However, there is an ongoing issue concerning the power consumption and data transmission. One popular technology of wearable devices is the Electrocardiogram (ECG) which can be improved through integration of existing technologies and requires further researches and developments. This study focused on integrating the Smart ADC Chip in an ECG System with a developed mobile application for Android devices to further evaluate the advantages of using the Smart ADC Chip utilizing adaptive resolution and lossless compression techniques for better transmission of data and low power consumption. Decompression algorithm has been applied through the software to monitor the heart activity using Bluetooth technology for data transmission. The transmission accuracy and power consumption with and without the integration of the Smart ADC Chip was evaluated. The transmission rate is 100% and an average power consumption of 0.9762 watt. The results of the analysis were presented which can be used as a guide for future researches.
