Abstract
We investigate, both experimentally and theoretically, electroabsorption (EA) spectra of poly( p-phenylene vinylene) over a wide spectral region in order to clarify the nature of multiple absorption bands in visible–UV region. Observed EA spectra and their polarization dependence of poly[2-metoxy,5-(2′-ethyl-hexoxy)-1,4 phenylene vinylene] (MEH-PPV) are compared with the calculated spectra within the single configuration-interaction method. We discuss the origin of each absorption band.
