Abstract

ABSTRACTA polyacetylene derivative with 4-phenoxyphenyl substituent was synthesized by the polymerization of 1-ethynyl-4-phenoxybenzene. The chemical structure of poly(1-ethynyl-4-phenoxybenzene) was characterized by NMR (1H-, 13C-), IR, and UV-visible spectroscopies to have a conjugated polymer backbone with the 4-phenoxyphenyl substituents. The polymer showed characteristic UV-visible absorption maximum value of 352 nm. Photoluminescence spectrum exhibited maximum peak at 453 nm, which corresponds to the photon energy of 2.74 eV. Band gap of polymer was 3.02 eV.
