Abstract

Over a decade ago, the seeds for what is now the IEEE Smart Village initiative were planted. Thanks to champions like Robin Podmore and Ray Larson as well as countless volunteers, the Smart Village logo and community-building sessions have become familiar to those of us who attend the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) General Meeting. Somewhat more recently, IEEE created the Smart Cities Initiative that links together contributions from six technical societies and two councils “. . . to advance the state of the art for smart city technologies for the benefit of society. . . .”
