Abstract

AbstractThis article presents an electrically small asymmetric coplanar strip (ACS)‐fed metamaterial‐inspired antenna for multiband operation. The design employs a simple monopole, a set of rectangular split ring resonator (SRR), an inverted U‐shaped stub, and a rectangular complimentary split ring resonator (CSRR) in the ground plane to realize four operating bands. The antenna operates at 2.46, 5.8, 6.78, and 10.46 GHz with a bandwidth of 270 MHz, 340 MHz,180 MHz, and 1.16 GHz, respectively. The proposed structure has an electrical size of at 2.46 GHz. The experimental results are found to be in close proximity to the simulated ones. The presented electrically small antenna possesses a radian sphere (ka) of 0.68 and achieves an adequate gain of 2.37dBi with requisite radiation characteristics suitable for WLAN and satellite‐based applications.
