Abstract

In order to investigate the electrochemical properties of ZrF 4-based glasses, we have used several complementary methods. E.m.f. measurements of sodium amalgam cells give a mean ionic transport number of .999 ± .004. The experimentals results obtained by the Tubandt's method lead to the conclusion that the fluoride ions are the mobile charge carriers. The blocking electrode method allows a precise determination of the upper limit of small electronic transport numbers; we find t e ⩽ 6.8 10 −3. Finally, cyclic voltammetry curves obtained with a gold/glass sample interface, shows an electrolytic domain of 1.9 V which can be extended to 2.9 at low temperatures.
