Abstract

DyB 2 C 2 undergoes an antiferroquadrupolar (AFQ) ordering at T Q = 24.7 K . Electrical resistivity and AC-susceptibility experiments were performed in order to elucidate the transition behavior in the Y-diluted compounds Dy 1 - x Y x B 2 C 2 . The Y dilution decreases both the AFQ and antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition temperatures. Although, the AFQ transition temperature disappears at x = 0.5 , the AFQ order exists up to x = 0.6 below the AFM transition temperature. The anomalous behavior appears around T N in the resistivity and susceptibility curves for 0.5 ⩽ x , where the AFM and AFQ transitions undergo simultaneously.
