Abstract

The electrical properties of non-stoichiometric Y-type hexagonal ferrite series have been studied. Y-type polycrystalline hexaferrite powders were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Permittivity, DC resistivity, and impedance character were measured. Experimental results show that proper cation deficiency will not affect the phase formation of Y-type hexagonal ferrite, and moreover, improve the sintering process. Ferric cation deficiency will limit ferric valency variation and raise the grain boundary resistance of a Y-type hexagonal ferrite. As a result, permittivity decreases and DC resistivity increases with cation deficiency in a Y-type hexagonal ferrite.
