Abstract

This paper attempts to reveal the dielectric properties, breakdown properties, surface charge decay, and conductivity properties of copper-calcium titanate (CaCu 3 Ti 4 Oi 2 , abbreviated as CCTO)/EPDM composites. The CCTO/EPDM composites were prepared using high purity oxides of CuO, CaCO 3 and TiO 2 and mechanical blending with EPDM. The experiments have demonstrated that the addition of CCTO increases the dielectric constant in accordance with the internal barrier capacitance model and the Clausius-Mossotti theory. The breakdown field intensity increased to 112 kV/mm with 10 wt% CCTO but then decreased with increasing CCTO. A small amount of CCTO was noticed to accelerate the dissipation of surface charge. In addition, a field-dependent conductivity became evident at a high CCTO content.
