Abstract
Double perovskite multiferroic compound BiBaFeCO6 was synthesized by a high-temperature solid-state reaction method. We mainly report X-rays structural and dielectric properties of polycrystalline BiBaFeCO6. The micrograph of the sample, recorded at room temperature, exhibits the homogeneous distribution of grains on the surface of the sample. Analysis of optical spectrum obtained using UV spectroscopy provides the optical band gap of the material. Studies of frequency and temperature dependence of imaginary and real components of complex impedance and modulus have provided the contributions of bulk (grains), grain boundary and interface in electrical and structural properties. The occurrence of above phase transitions (ferroelectricity) in the material has been confirmed by the appearance of a field dependence of polarization loop and anomalies in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curve. The frequency-temperature dependence of electrical conductivity of BiBaFeCeO6 obeys Jonscher’s universal power law. The magneto-electric effect of the material has also been studied.
