Abstract
AbstractA thin‐film optical waveguide made of a viscoelastic polymer to which an electric voltage can be applied has been fabricated. Also fabricated is an active thin‐film waveguide device doped with laser dye. Laser light propagation in these devices and the possibilities of electrical control have been studied. It is found that the transmission coefficient of the waveguide and the oscillation wavelength of the thin‐film DFB dye laser can be controlled electrically to a certain extent, although the response is slow.
