Abstract
The electrical conduction behavior and phase transition temperature of Y 2O 3-stabilized ZrO 2 containing 10 and 30 mol% Y 2O 3 were investigated in a temperature range 930–1270°C. In order to determine the phase transition temperature on the basis of the electrical conductance of samples, it is necessary to measure the conductance reducing temperature at a fixed rate. The conductance data obtained in such a manner were analyzed using the following equation: 1n GT= a( T −1) 2 + b( T −1)+ c, where G is the conductance. The conductance data gave excellent agreement with the above equation not only in the fluorite-type phase region but also in the adjacent two-phase region. The phase transition temperatures of 10 and 30 mol% Y 2O 3 compositions were about 1020°C and 1210°C, respectively.
