Abstract

Electrical breakdown voltage (VBD) and streamer propagation path characteristics in highly non-uniform electrode system were investigated to clarify the dielectric barrier effects. The experimental results showed that VBD is affected by both the barrier dimension and the barrier position. As the position of the dielectric barrier becomes closer to the needle electrode, the rising rate of VBD according to the barrier dimension increases. In addition, streamer propagation path could be identified into two categories, depending on the dielectric barrier position and the dimension. Finally, it is found that VBDs were determined by the electrical insulation structure, not the streamer propagation path or length.
