Abstract

The standard data reduction procedure for the Electrical Aerosol Analyzer (EAA) cannot be used to analyze data obtained at reduced pressure without introducing relatively large errors. Assuming that particle charging is independent of pressure when the charging parameter, Nt, is held constant, a modified data reduction table was derived for use in analysis of data obtained at any desired reduced pressure. Monodisperse aerosols with diameters ranging from 0.03 to 0.21 μm were used to study the EAA response at the local pressure of 0.82 atm. Precautions and adjustments necessary for making measurements at reduced pressure are discussed.
