Abstract
Developing countries like India are witnessing rapid growth in the electric transportation sector. Owing to the clean means of transportation Electric Vehicles (EVs) have the potential to sustainably replace the traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) based transportation system. However, the challenges with EV like range anxiety, better charging infrastructures, longer charging time, high initial cost, safety, etc do exist. The Indian government has taken several steps by making EV-friendly policies to ensure the growth of the EVs, but improvements are still desired. This paper presents the current EV scenario in India with emphasis on the charging infrastructure, like charging speed, charging technologies, connector types, and their voltage, current, power ratings, etc. The specifications and features of 2-wheel and 3-wheel Light Electric Vehicles (LEV) like types of motors used, the range specified, charging time, charger ratings, battery ratings, maximum rating speeds, are considered for review.
