Abstract

This study proposes a new car-following model by considering the dynamics of electric vehicle to capture the characteristics of electric connected and automated vehicles traffic flow. The proposed model incorporates the electric vehicle dynamics into the full velocity difference (FVD) model by assuming that the information of electric vehicle dynamics is shared by vehicles through vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. This car-following model is a continuous improvement over the previous ones, because it contains more information in the car-following process than others. The stability condition of the proposed car-following model is obtained using the perturbation method. Finally, the experiments show that the proposed car-following model by considering the dynamics of electric vehicle has a larger stable region compared with FVD model. Therefore, the opportunity of collision between vehicles is lower in traffic flow compared with FVD model.
