Abstract

A new field of application for power engineering lies in the electrical protection of bathing beaches against sharks at luxury tourist resorts. The author reviews traditional methods of protection from shark attack, then discusses the reaction of fish and sharks to pulsed electric fields. An experimental system has been installed at a bathing resort, with promising results.
