Abstract

The Coulomb excitation of 195Pt has been measured using α-particles of energy 5.6 to 6.5 MeV. Angular distributions were obtained for a number of transitions. The deduced B(E2) values are compared with the predictions of the O(6) boson-fermion symmetry scheme. The comparison indicates a number of discrepancies, some of which can be explained by considering the semi-microscopic form of the E2 operator. The observed decay of one level, however, remains inconsistent with the predictions of the symmetry scheme.
