Abstract

Perovskite-type chromites ACr0.9557Fe0.05O3 (A = Sc, In, Tl, Bi) have been studied by probe Mossbauer spectroscopy on 57Fe nuclei. The spectra of the ACr0.9557Fe0.05O3 samples (A = Sc, In, Bi) measured above the Neel temperature TN indicate the presence of several nonequivalent positions occupied by impurity iron atoms in all chromites. To explain significant differences in quadrupole splittings, semi-empirical calculations of the electric field gradient have been performed for all studied compounds within the ionic model taking into account monopole and dipole contributions. The performed calculations are in satisfactory agreement with experimental data.
