Abstract
We present a new and fast method to obtain information on macromolecule-lipid interaction. Lipid bilayers were formed without and in presence of macromolecules. Mechanical rupture of the membranes was induced by applying high electric fields. The kinetics of pore formation during irreversible breakdown is sensitive to the binding affinity of macromolecules and the lipid composition of the membrane. We apply this finding to investigate the so-called stealth property of recently introduced PEG-grafted lipids used in liposomal drug carrier systems.
