Abstract
The electric field gradient at the Al 3+ nucleus in octahedral and tetrahedral sites in garnets MeAlG (Me Lu, Yb, Y, Gd) are calculated taking the overlap of the aluminium and oxygen wavefunctions into consideration. The theoretical results are compared with experiment.
