Abstract

We show that a sphere made of a uniaxial medium with hyperbolic dispersion can exhibit both magnetic and electric resonances. The anisotropy conditions for the magnetic and electric resonances in a hyperbolic sphere are derived and verified by numerical simulation. The occurrence of both magnetic and electric resonances in a hyperbolic sphere indicates avenues for further study of metamaterial applications and scattering effects.
