Abstract

This paper analyzes the impact of foreseen political elections on the non-economic policies aimed at reducing the spread of infection and implemented all over the world during the pandemic of 2020. The policies analyzed include schools closures, stay-at-home requirements, workplace closures, canceling of public events, and restrictions on gatherings. The analysis suggests that schools closures and stay-at-home requirements were loosen before the elections in democratic countries. There is no evidence of political cycles found in autocracies.
