Abstract

Let us take a step back and look at the bigger picture: what are the big trends that are re-shaping higher education? The first and perhaps most easily observed trend is the arrival and adoption of new learning technologies. Witness the impact of IT on the creation and distribution of knowledge, teaching methodologies, and communication in general. These technologies and online teaching will transform the role of the teacher, who will cease their traditional role, instead morphing into a kind of orchestra conductor of the learning process.
