Abstract

E-learning is gaining more and more importance in the digital eco-system. Library has always been considered as an information hub for the education. In a digital world, the conventional library has to go through tremendous changes in terms of its infrastructure, content development, content management and retrieval of information so as to enable to support and facilitate e-learning. In 2014 Technical Information Resource Centre (TIRC) of Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) started the new service by facilitating access to e-learning through National Knowledge Network (NKN) which is a high speed internet connection by National Informatics Centre (NIC) for connecting research institutes and academic institutions across the country for knowledge sharing. This paper discusses about e-learning facility at Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory and the importance of digital libraries in the new environment
