Abstract

A new Reynold's equation, which uses Winer's viscoplastic model 1–3 to express the non-Newtonian fluid property, is derived for line-contact elastohydrodynamic (EHD) problems. The numerical scheme developed by Houpert and Hamrock 4 is modified to suit the non-Newtonian fluids. The numerical results are presented for the isothermal lubrication to observe the influence of non-Newtonian fluid on pressure distribution, film thickness, shear stress and the mass flow rate.
