Abstract
In this article, based on the mesh theory, the principal curvatures of the tooth surfaces for the crossed helical gears and their induced normal curvatures are analysed. The equation of the minimum oil film thickness for the crossed axis helical gears has been presented using the elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory. The minimum oil film thickness for the crossed helical gears has been calculated. Physical and mathematical models for the measure of the oil film thickness have been presented and a measure device designed and manufactured. Using the above measure device, tested results of the oil film thickness for the drive have been given and compared with the calculated values. The calculated values are in good agreement with the tested results.
