Abstract
Elastic waves are considered as a contributing factor to solid armature transition in guide rail launchers. The transient elastic waves in the rails of electromagnetic launchers are studied as well as the normal contact pressure between the rails and the armature. We have shown that, due to the interference of elastic waves, the contact pressure between the armature and rail will change dramatically as the armature goes through the critical velocity. This paper explores the effects of transverse magnetic pressure on the trailing arms of a "C"-shaped armature
