Abstract

The three-body formalism with Coulomb interaction proposed by Alt, Sandhas and Ziegelmann is used in the calculation of the differential cross section for the elastic deuteron-nucleus scattering when the total energy of the three-body system is under the break-up threshold. In this work the cross sections are calculated for targets with atomic numbers Z T = 1, Z T = 2 and Z T = 4. A discussion of the numerical calculation method is made showing its difficulty for increasing Z T . Comparisons are made between these cross sections, obtained from the three-body formalism with Coulomb interaction, and the cross sections obtained by adding the Coulomb transition amplitude to the pure nuclear transition amplitude (calculated from the three-body formalism without Coulomb interaction).
