Abstract

Cross section, analyzing power, and spin transfer observables for ${p\ensuremath{-}}^{3}\mathrm{He}$ elastic scattering have been obtained using an 800-MeV polarized proton beam at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF). The results are compared with theoretical predictions for these observables using nonlocal optical potentials defined by full folding a complex nucleon-nucleon (NN) effective interaction with a ground state ${}^{3}\mathrm{He}$ wave function given by a large space, shell model nuclear structure calculation. The effective NN interaction has been derived from complex NN potentials that fit the (complex) NN scattering phase shifts at 800 MeV.
