Abstract

At the Heidelberg tandem Van de Graaff accelerator, differential cross sections of the reaction 11B( 11B, 11B) 11B were measured in the energy range from 2.7 to 15.5 MeV (c.m.). The production of negative boron ions, the preparation of self-supporting boron targets and the coincidence detection method are described. The excitation function at 90° c.m. does not show any resonances or fluctuations in agreement with the statistical theory. All experimental data can be interpreted with the strong absorption mechanism; results of calculations with the smooth cut-off model and the optical model are presented.
