Abstract

Sound wave velocities and elastic moduli were determined for glasses in the system ZrF 4BaF 2LaF 3NaFAlF 3 by by interferometry and the cube resonance technique under hydrostatic pressures up to 200MPa and temperatures ranging from 180 to 400K. Sound velocities and elastic moduli increased linearly with pressure and decreased with temperature. The Grüneisen parameter was positive. The elastic normality implied a closely packed structure for the ZrF 4-based glass.
