Abstract

The elastic photoproduction of neutral pions from 4He is studied in the impulse approximation using the amplitudes of Chew et al. for the photoproduction of pions from single nucleons. Choosing a Gaussian wave function for the spatial part of the ground state of 4He, numerical evaluation of the differential cross-section has been made in the centre-of-momentum system for an incoming photon energy of 300 MeV, and agreement with the available experimental data has been found for two values of the root mean square radius of the 4He nucleus.
