Abstract

The interactions between disclination loops and dislocation lines are examined in this paper. Detailed analyses are made according to the relative orientations of the dislocation Burgers vectors and the rotation vectors of disclinations. It is concluded that, for the assumed geometric arrangements, resultant interactions exist between screw dislocations and twist disclination loops, as well as edge dislocations and wedge disclination loops. However, local interaction forces do exist for other combinations of defects. Closed−form solutions are obtained for interaction energies and forces. Depending upon their relative orientations, the interaction forces can be infinite, finite, or zero when the defects are close to each other. Numerical results are also presented.
