Abstract

Charge exchange reactions that proceed via a compound nucleus are predicted to show a feature of compound elastic scattering: they are enhanced by a factor of two over all other inelastic channels if isospin is conserved. The enhancement factor approaches unity in the limit of very strong isospin mixing. However, for almost all realistic cases it should not be far from the value of 2. This prediction can be tested in (p, n) reactions.
