Abstract

New data on the elastic constants of polycrystalline hematite (α-Fe2O3) are reported. These results are compared with values reported by previous investigators. The adiabatic bulk modulus and its pressure derivative at zero pressure are 2066 kb and 4.53. A Murnaghan volume-pressure trajectory derived from these ultrasonic data is compared with the existing static compression and shock-wave data for hematite.
