Abstract

Elastic properties of Rb 2 Cd 2 (SO 4 ) 3 have been investigated between 20°C and -240°C. Elastic stiffness and compliance constants were measured by the ultrasonic and piezoelectric resonance method, respectively. The softening of c 44 E (1/ s 44 E ) was observed at cubic-to-monoclinic phase transition point. In the triclinic phase, gradual elastic stiffening was found. A new phase was found below -205°C and was identified as D 2 4 .
