Abstract

NiMnGa is a prototypical ferromagnetic shape memory alloy exhibiting a giant magnetic field induced strain (MFIS). Recently, we have elaborated bulk NiMnGa-particles/silicone composites exhibiting a 4% of MFIS. A strategic aim of the present work is the development of novel NiMnGa-particles/polymer layered composites for the magnetostrain active 2D actuators to be used, e.g., in the micropump or magnetoelectric devices. Here we present the fabrication procedure of such composites, the results of their internal design characterization, as well as magnetic measurements showing prerequisites for obtaining a large MFIS.
