Abstract

This scientific article explores the reality that the Ecuadorian penitentiary system currently suffers and its limitations due to the intervention of organized crime and its consequent corruption within these rehabilitation centers. By means of a qualitative research, based on the analytical-synthetic and inductive methods, it was possible to carry out a bibliographic review that exposes the conceptualization of the penitentiary system in Ecuador, the influence of corruption within the prisons and the impact that this has generated. The general objective is: To determine the causes that have generated the crisis of the Ecuadorian penitentiary system, within its prisons in the period included in the years 2019 to 2022. Under the recapitulated information, it is concluded that the instability of such system depends on the administrations under institutional actors. Through criminal infiltration, there will always be a social imbalance that not only affects the rights of the inmates themselves, but also the welfare and security of Ecuadorians. Control and order should be innate measures within the centers for inmates, therefore there should be different methods to train all personnel that are part of the prison system in Ecuador.
