Abstract
Summary: The article aims at identifying the most relevant changes that are taking place in the linguistic behaviour and the cultural practices of students as they move from primary school to high school. The basis of the analysis is a diachronic comparison of indicators regarding the uses in Catalan and Castilian, as well as the use of free time and the habits of cultural consumption. Is the language relevant in order to explain cultural consumption in Catalonia? Is there a typology of consumers according to their initial language? Who are the consumers of Catalan culture? The first results show that only a small cultural market in Catalan exists in Catalonia for the preadolescent. On the other hand, there are certain differences in each ethnolinguistic group, that is, the mother tongue of the pupil is a relevant factor in order to describe her or his cultural consumption.
