Abstract

In recent years, the increased interest shown in the work of historians has highlighted their social role in connection with the uses of history, as well as their responsibility and ethical commitment to their work. In particular, these conclusions may be drawn if we examine how historians have performed their social function in the current democratic system in Spain, specifically regarding their consideration of the recent past – the events of the Second Republic, the civil war and the long years of the Franco regime. The dispute over «historical revisionism» is a case in point.
